- Auto supplier Robert Bosch GmbH, is a German multinational engineering and technology company headquartered in Gerlingen, near Stuttgart, Germany. They said its health care affiliate developed a test that can diagnose COVID-19 in less than 2.5 hours and might help efforts to fight the coronavirus outbreak.
- The ability to test for the Coronavirus is seen as a key variable in restricting its spread. Faster diagnosis has played a huge help in some countries like Germany and South Korea, but continuities to lag in others including Italy and parts of the U.S.
- The new test uses a familiar medical platform made by the health care division at Robert Bosch GmbH . The device is already used in hospitals, labs and medical practices to diagnose a range of bacterial and viral diseases including influenza and pneumonia.
- While these new tests accurate, they also require time, an experienced medical professional and supplies — including swabs — that are in short supply. Governments have been trying to only give these tests to the people who are deemed most at-risk for complications.
